- a novel by Laurie Colwin.

The ordinariness of this book! That’s it. That’s what this book perfects, to a T. Ordinary people and ordinary ‘falling head over heels in love’. And contrary to what the title suggests, everyone’s not happy all the time. That’s not to say the book is a sad one either. It’s neither.

Cousins, Guido and Vincent are all in for once they meet their respective women Holly and Misty, about whom they are completely sure about. The women, less so about them. In a very short summary, the book details their 'courtship' and love lives as each couple learns to define and accept their way of being happy together.

Each character, their own. The women, though, more interesting. The people, with their own personalities don't come easy... but they work. In it's world, much like ours, happiness is a lot of acceptance.

Acceptance of love from others. Accepting the version of love that is given.

The book perfects the ordinary, like I said. It’s mirrors relatability to an ordinary reader. Ordinary forms that happiness takes in ordinary real lives. How we protect ourselves from things that scare us, that has the ability to hurt us. The magnificence of the book? It was written in 1970’s but never once does it feel like it was. The universality of how it writes about love is a testament to its perfection. It was fun, relatable and light while holding so much wisdom within the manifestations of each character’s story. A must read!!
