- a novel by Lucy Foley.
The book is another murder/ crime mystery that spans over years. And to be vaguely honest, I wanted to like the book more than I do. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed reading the book but it did not leave my jaw dropping to the floor like I had hoped it would. Perhaps, I over-hyped the expectations it in my head?

There's a grand opening of the luxury hotel, The Manor, owned and run by Francesca Woodland who, underneath her priestess-like purity hides a deeper and darker facade? The night of the opening and the days after involve a series of complicated events- displeased locals over the hotel being build upon their ancient woods; the weekend ends with a fire... and a body.
Told through five different perspectives, Francesca, her architect husband Owen, a guest Bella, a local Eddie working at the hotel, and the detective working on the case Detective Walker. Each have a secret that's not entirely their own as they weave and intertwine with each other.
The novel takes its time to set its groundwork and the first few chapters had a hard time holding my interest. But it picks up. The plot had bones. The atmosphere was creepy as intended. A good thriller to pass your time with.
