- a novel by Katy Brent

I started out my summer reading with this one, on the flight back home. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The title pretty much sums out the genre and the writing style. It's light, it's fresh, humorously smart without it turning into an overdone charcuterie with a sprinkle of cringe. All wit, no cringe! The book, simply, is a typical 'whodunit'.

The very enjoyable central character, Miss Molly Monroe, wakes up after a 'regrettable' night, she remembers none of it, to find she's gone VIRAL for ... lets just say some of her actions. What would anyone do after? Talk to their best friend. Only, Molly doesn't find hers. The novel proceeds with twists and turns thereafter, proving to be a real page-turner. Molly's turned into an internet (in)sensation, her roommate/ best friend turns out to be unalive after all and she can't seem to make heads or tails about anything.

Today, where an ordinary person living just like anyone else, doing the same things as everyone else, talking just like anyone else, by the fluke of (un)luck, can turn into a living meme- the book is a very relevant social commentary, especially towards online bullying, justifiably heavy at times, presented in a very accessible way. A good read.
